TREE CLIMBING

madelina
cea all da way
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
whaaaaaa!

As the title suggests, we climbed some trees.  like, big ones.  holla!  this experience was definately one of my faves so far in paris.  so here's what went down:  we went to the foret de meudon with about 10 people from our school, and met up with this amazing tree-climbing man and his partner-in-climb (COPYRIGHT! *swift movement of pen on moleskine*).  they harnessed us up, showed us the basics, and then we were in the air (attached to ropes of course!)  they spoke completely in french, but i am happy to say that i understood most of what they said!!  yay.  helene, who works at cea, also translated so we didn't harm ourselves!

the last time i attmepted to climb anything super super steep was a rockwall on claire's birthday last year, which did not go very well because i panicked 3 feet from the ground.  i don't know if i just get along better with trees or what, but besides a few fits of nervous laughter, i was not scared at all!  perhaps i just felt safer outside than i do in an artificial rock gym....or more connected or something.  i don't know.

any way, we climbed high!  my favorite was the footlock (click to see a quick demonstration.)  i wish i had brought my camera up the first time we went up the tree, because i made it all but a few feet to the top before it began to rain, and i began my descent.

zip lining was really cool--it went to fast i barely remember it, all i know is i want to do it again!  you climb up the tree, and a man with a tasseled knit cap and hemp balloon pants (seriously, i loved him) hooks your little harness to the zip line--then its jump off the branch and there you go!!!!

all the people who went were really fun, and we met sam, our new friend who just came to cea and just happens to live down the street from us!

in short, i want to live in a tree and go climbing every day.  the e.n.d.
making my way up to the zip line, holla!
